Why Are E-Scooters So Popular In The US?

E-Scooters are useful for so many things. They’re an easy, safe (with the correct precautions), cheap and fun way of getting around, and transportation! It isn’t really a wonder as to why they are so popular, but why are E-Scooters so popular in the US?

A Revolution

A lot of Americans, and people in general, are starting to look more and more for an alternative to cars. The hike in price of fuel, costs of tax and costs of getting it fixed if something goes wrong are just a few of the reasons why. Whether it’s an electric bike or scooter, they are a much more cost-efficient way of travelling.

If your car was to break down, it could cost up to thousands to get it repaired. If an E-Scooter was to break down, it’s likely a case of recharging it, or paying a couple of hundred to get it fixed, or for some get a new one.

It’s become such a big thing, that even car company Ford purchased a scooter company back in November. This revolution is like no other, this one is known as the Micromobility Revolution.

Greenhouse Gases

The US has a population of 332.4 million as of 2022. This number is only going to keep growing and growing, meaning the levels of bad gases in the air will grow with it. Helping to reduce the pollution rate is one of the things you can do in the present day to help change the future.

With a battery powered E-Scooter, it is probably the easiest way to do so. All you have, is the initial cost of buying the scooter, and the cost of charging your E-Scooter, which may I add, is far cheaper than Petrol or Diesel.

US vs UK

In the UK, riding a private E-Scooter is illegal. There are opportunities to ride the public ones which usually you pay for per minute. The laws are looking to change but as of July 2022, it is still set as illegal. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t purchase one for private use, or in preparation for the law to change VERY soon!

In the US though, depending on the state you are in, you can ride your E-Scooter wherever you please. California is an example of an exception. You cannot ride your E-Scooter on the sidewalks, only in bike lanes and the roads. You must be 18 or older and have a valid drivers license.

Journeys

Why are E-Scooters so popular in the US, you are so avidly asking?

Well did you know that 60% of city journeys are less than 5 miles? Why drive a car 5 miles, it seems silly when you look at it like that, right? E-Scooters are the ideal alternative to driving especially when it comes to these journeys. Some E-Scooters can travel up to 80 miles on one charge! How many trips into the city can you take with one charge? That’s right, 16! Fair enough, that is 8 if you’re going there and back, but still that’s more than a week’s worth of city trips!

Scooters will rarely get into traffic, like on those busy open roads, meaning in the long run they are technically faster than a car! So, there is just a few reasons to answer the question, why are E-Scooters so popular in the US!
