What is the E-Scooter Age Limit in the UK?
Published September 27, 2022
E-Scooters have grown in popularity after the last couple of years, and sales have hiked, many buyers being young people and business people traveling to the office. Many young people ask for an e-scooter as a gift for their birthday/ Christmas, but are they actually allowed to ride them? Is there an E-Scooter age limit in the UK? That is what we are going to discuss here today at Scooter Street!
When it comes to buying something like an e-scooter, it is understandable that you would want to check any laws that surround the usage of them. They are a convenient source of travel but there may be some things to think about before setting off on your journey.
Renting An E-Scooter
First we are going to speak about the rental E-Scooters or E-Bikes. There are so many different companies and brands that can be seen across the whole of the UK with their own electric vehicles. They are often found on the pavements in busy areas for people to pick up and use. However, many of these companies will have a restriction that you must be of legal driving age, which is 17 in the UK, or have a full driving license, which is clearly for safety reasons.
It is always a good idea to check fully the rules for the company you are using, which will often be found on their app or online on a website.
Private E-Scooters
Having your own electric scooter will come with its own laws and safety regulations, and it is always good to check this before using them on public streets if there has been a rule change since you last checked. As with the rental of an E-Scooter, you will often find you should be of legal driving age (in most countries, not just the UK) but most of the time the recommended age is 14 years old (at a minimum).
We hope that this helped you answer your question of the E-Scooter age limit in the UK.
