When using an e-scooter in Paris, there are some rules that you should abide to.
Rules Of The Road
- If visibility is low or it is dark, you must wear a retroreflective (or Hi-Viz) vest so you can be seen.
- You need to make sure a horn is equipped to your e-scooter.
- They cannot be parked on sidewalks or pavements.
- You mustn’t go over the speed limit of 25km/h.
- If you see a fire or accident, it is important that you stop.
Can I Go On The Sidewalk?
The sidewalks in Paris are for pedestrians only. There is an obligation to use the bike lane/paths and if none are available, you my use the roads that have a 50km/h speed limit. If you do need to use the pedestrian only area – sidewalks – you must switch off your engine and hold your e-scooter.
Children Using An E-Scooter In Paris
The minimum age when using an e-scooter in Paris is 8 years old. They must, however, be on a child scooter NOT an adult one. If the child is under 12 they need to be wearing a helmet.
Fines If You Do Not Abide
- Using an e-scooter in Paris on the sidewalks – a fine of 135 euro.
- Non compliance of the law – a fine of 35 euro.
- Exceeding the speed limit – a fine of 1500 euro.
