Can I Use An E-Scooter On The Pavement?

There seems to be a lot of interesting and important information to know before riding your e-scooter in the public. Firstly, is it legal? Secondly, do I need a license to ride an e-scooter? And thirdly, can I ride an e-scooter on the pavement? Well, luckily Scooter Street has your back and we will be answering the third question today! We do have some other blogs, which you can check out here, to answer any other questions you may have. Let’s get started.

E-Scooters On The Pavement

In short, the answer is no. It is not legal, just as with petrol scooters, to ride an e-scooter on the pavement. It is deemed as dangerous to the pedestrians who will be walking on the path, as you would be classed as a motorist. The pavement is a space intended for pedestrians and not e-scooters, motorbikes etc… You also can’t ride an e-scooter in a bike lane or a pedestrian only area – this would be deemed illegal, and you could be prosecuted if caught.

As of now, we have no extra information. However, e-scooter trials will be coming to an end in the near future, in which we will see a mass of changes to the current laws and legalization involving e-scooters. Please be sure to check any laws in your local area and ensure your e-scooter is safe to ride. Also, we would recommend keeping up to date with any updates there may be on the government’s legalisation of e-scooters, as this can change at any time and it is always important to know.

In a private area or space of land, you can ride your e-scooter on pavements, etc… as this would be safer to do so. Be sure to have safe travels and enjoy your journey on your e-scooter!
